Ping or Peng?

Ping and Peng... they're two hamsters. They're guests at my place for a few days, and of course I had to take some pictures... One of the pics, taken with a macro lens, only showed a fraction of the ear in focus...

Blue

The sky was blue and very clear - quite exceptional for KL - perhaps due to the fact it's a public holiday with hardly any traffic going on...

Scary Lion Approaching

The kid is not too sure about that colorful thing getting closer, seeing his little fist...

Big tradition is the lion dancing during Chinese new year. You'll find them at random spots over town during this week. Usually with a small orchestra that makes incredible noise when you're too close to it. Did you know there's also lion dance competitions going on? And although that might sound corny, it's quite stunning when you watch it - and scary - because they perform their tricks on poles that extend two to three meters from the ground up, jumping together in that heavy suit from pole to pole. One missed step and it can go horribly wrong... Recently watched the national championships of 2007 on DVD and will see if I can upload a clip soon...

Pictures taken yesterday in KL, except the last one.

Colorful me

Well, not so much me as the decor... I'm in the middle though... :-)

Year of the Ox

Not yet, we're still in the year of the Rat, but it's getting closer... This ox is standing in front of Pavilion - a shopping mall close by - and it doesn't look as mean as on the picture. Shot this afternoon, with the lens at 10mm - the camera almost up its nose and somewhat tilted - it gets a totally different attitude... Click on it for a bigger and meaner version...

Note: I'm a bit confused about the exact animal. I thought it was ox, then someone told me it was bull - perhaps they didn't fancy the idea of a bull without balls - however it seems though that officially it's ox, hence the title change of this blog, formerly known as 'Year of the Bull'...

Monkeys

They're really a grateful subject for any photographer, so prepare to be bored with them some more in coming blogs.

They're all over the place, running around, harassing people who carry around food, scaring children, sitting on cars, running up and down the electricity wires - the younger ones having fun with them by bouncing up and down in the middle, where the wire is the most flexible, which probably explains some of the black outs we had in the hotel - crawling over the balconies at five high and crossing busy roads with their whole family, hardly scared of people, acting like they own the place... still, nobody bothers them and they're left in peace doing their sometimes annoying thing...

As usual, click on them for a bigger version...
